HHS's top AI official said there's a new strategic plan coming in January. And, a new report details how budget shortfalls are impacting government R&D efforts.

The department's top AI official said the new strategic plan is in development now and should be issued in January.

The bill would establish a program called “MedShield” that would use AI to protect against future pandemics.

The agency ultimately wants to select organizations to demo their products during upcoming “CMS AI Demo Days.”

Micky Tripathi, who will oversee a new departmentwide technology office, told FedScoop “job one” is filling chief technology, data and artificial intelligence roles.

Chief technology, data and AI officer roles will now be under the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.

Palantir’s Artificial Intelligence Platform and Foundry software will support the young health research agency’s data infrastructure and track the progress of its programs.

Micky Tripathi will serve as acting CAIO in addition to his role as national coordinator for health IT, a spokesperson said.

The health agency’s Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology released a draft framework for health IT policies that leans into data, delivery and innovation.
