Over the past year the team has learned that guidance on how to release code as open source must be as straightforward as possible.

The Defense Digital Service is launching Monday its first project on Code.mil, a step in what its leader says is a crucial journey toward open source.

Developers will be able to review and collaborate on the Defense Department's unclassified code through its new Code.mil initiative.
