The U.S. Marine Corps will complete its transition to the Navy’s Next Generation Enterprise Network in May 2013, the Department of Navy chief information officer’s office said on Monday.
“The Navy in full will look to complete the transition in April 2014. NGEN is not only critical to government command, control and enhanced information assurance for the Navy, but it is foundational to the future DON network enterprise ashore,” the Navy said. “It will give the Navy greater visibility of its network enterprise services and cost information. It will also allow a more varied range of solutions that ensure the best value for the DON network.”
NGEN will provide a 24/7 enterprise level service, with four network operation centers and three enterprise service desks.
It will be deployed to approximately 400,000 workstations and laptops while creating nearly 800,000 NGEN user accounts and serving more than 3,000 locations in the continental United States, Hawaii, Alaska and Okinawa, the Navy said.
