FBI shopping for a new CIO
Among the FBI’s most wanted right now? A new chief information officer, according to a listing on the bureau’s jobs website.
The G-men are recruiting an American citizen who can obtain a Top Secret-Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance to be their CIO and report to the deputy director and associate deputy director on enterprise IT functions.
According to the listing, the new CIO will be “responsible for overseeing the acquisition and integration of the FBI’s information resources and will provide IT portfolio management, recommend IT program improvements, and coordinate and review the agency’s IT budget to both ensure technology initiatives are aligned to FBI objectives, and sufficiently agile to adapt to the evolving needs of FBI operations.”
That includes: “all data centers, networks, help desks, computer program development, computer systems operations, information sharing, cybersecurity (including policy, standards, and operations), data management, and end-user computing. “
Jerome Pender served as FBI CIO since August 2012, but apparently he moved on to a role as operating partner at Z Capital Group late last year, according to his LinkedIn profile and a release.
FBI’s recruitment of a new CIO comes as it faces daunting technology challenges on several fronts. Last week the FBI was announced as part of a presidential task force to combat the messages of terrorists in social media. The bureau is also at the center of the encryption debate in which FBI Director James Comey continues to press private technology companies for backdoors into their systems to locate and stop criminals and terrorists. President Barack Obama also recently called on the bureau to update its National Instant Criminal Background Check System in an executive action to combat gun violence.
The listing is open until Jan. 22. The position has a salary of up to $185,100.
FedScoop has reach out to the FBI for comment. Nextgov first reported the job listing.
