The Office of Administration, which supports the President and his staff’s technology needs, piloted a program this summer where a group of interns helped bring agile software development to more than 40 projects.
Called the SWAT Team (standing for Software Automation and Technology) the interns met one-on-one with customers and offered “quick and nimble” software solutions to their issues, wrote Chief Information Officer for the Executive Office of the President Brook Colangeo on CIO.gov.
“The work of the SWAT Team has been a tremendous success and has revolutionized our business process support and software development services,” Colangelo wrote. “This group of exceptionally talented individuals has received well-deserved praise from our customers and I am excited about the future projects our next cycle of students will work on.”
The idea that became the basis for the program was brought up by one of the department interns. The team used an agile development approach and cloud based rapid development platforms for their projects.
They also analyzed the office’s human capital management system and made recommendations on how to improve its business processes.
The CIO Council has invited the EOP to present to SWAT Team model to other federal agencies.
