“I feel very strong about having women participate in all parts of government, especially the bill writing and law-making process,” said Pennsylvania Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz. “We have to be able to fight for what we believe in.”

Other speakers included Rear Admiral Brenda Holman, Ambassador Elena Poptodorova, the Kennedy Center’s Alma Powell, ABC7’s Maureen Bunyan, author Judy Norsigian, author Lisa Haneberg and Pilates Instructor Marissa McInnis.

FedScoop CEO Goldy Kamali opened the conference with a 20-minute talk about her career, focusing part of the discussion on the value of mentorship.

“More than anything you need to have confidence in yourself, because if you don’t no one else will,” Kamali said, “but you also need to seek out others in the organization that are willing to help guide you in your career and be a champion for you.”
