Box receives Justice Department contract

The Justice Department has awarded Box Inc. a contract to bring the agency’s suite of file sharing and information management tools to all of its 59 bureaus and offices.
The company announced Wednesday it will earn an authority to operate this week, allowing the department to collaborate on documents internally and externally, as well as support mobile and offline document access.
“There is an increasing need to securely connect and enable processes across agencies and jurisdictions as well as to connect government employees with their data, content and stakeholders,” Aaron Levie, Box co-founder and CEO, said in a statement. “Innovative government agencies, like DOJ, are deeply committed to leveraging emerging cloud technologies to better serve the American people, while ensuring the security and privacy of sensitive information.”
The contract comes as the company has made a strong push into the federal space in 2015. Sonny Hashmi, former General Services Administration chief information officer, joined the company in March. Box also recently announced it was going through the process of becoming Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program, or FedRAMP, compliant with the Defense Information Systems Agency as a sponsor. The company has 40 federal customers including the departments of State, Health and Human Services, and Agriculture.
Formed in 2005, the California-based startup went public this year in one of the most high profile IPOs in recent history.
