Teresa Carlson, vice president of worldwide public sector at AWS, said Wednesday that the company – which launched in 2006 and increased its public sector business over the past two years – attributes its growth to a customer-centered approach that is helping organizations that want to become more innovative, agile and efficient as technology advances.
“In addition, with initiatives such as the U.S. federal “Cloud First” mandate and the European Cloud Partnership, organizations are looking for ways to quickly move new and existing business and mission workloads to the cloud in a secure, compliant and cost-effective manner,” Carlson said Wednesday at Amazon Web Services Public Sector Summit at The Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.
She continued, “With the new services and features added today in AWS GovCloud, public sector customers now have greater capabilities to rapidly design, build and deploy high performance applications with AWS’s scalable, secure, low-cost platform.”
AWS also announced new services and features available in the AWS GovCloud, including the addition of high performance computing capabilities.
“We’ve made a lot of progress, but we still have a ways to go,” Carlson said in an interview with FedScoop. “Our mission is to listen to our customers and provide them with the best service and solutions we can to help them meet their mission needs.”
AWS GovCloud allows U.S. government agencies and contractors to move more sensitive workloads into the cloud by addressing their specific regulatory and compliance requirements, such as International Traffic and Arms Regulations.
AWS GovCloud now includes Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon EC2 Cluster Compute instances, Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS), Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC), AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), Elastic Load Balancing, Auto Scaling, Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS), Amazon Simple Queue Service (Amazon SQS), Amazon CloudWatch and Amazon CloudWatch alarms.
