Alfred Rivera retires after 25 years at DISA
Alfred Rivera, director of the Defense Information Systems Agency’s Development and Business Center, retired Thursday after more than 25 years with the defense IT procurement agency.
During his time at DISA, Rivera is credited with leading the agency’s managed data center consolidation efforts, helping improve application administration for DISA’s defense customers, supporting the launch of the Department of Defense Enterprise Email and moving DISA to the cloud, among many other technical contributions that supported warfighters on the battlefield.
He joined DISA in 1992 and held many positions, including CTO, and later director, of its Computing Services organization.
“All the jobs I’ve had have given me a broader understanding of the different aspects needed be a good leader and to be able to build capabilities. It’s not just one technology, but the formulation of multiple technologies,” Rivera said in a DISA announcement. “Building a capability is more than just the technology itself, it’s about how you bring the business side into it and how do you bring the contracting and the acquisition side into it.”
Rivera expects DISA to “continue to be flexible and evolve to meet department needs by adapting industry innovations to meet warfighter needs,” the announcement says.
In his retirement, he plans to work as a consultant and spend time working with animal rescue shelters.
