Sue Gordon nominated to be principal deputy director of national intelligence
Sue Gordon is President Donald Trump’s pick for principal deputy director of national intelligence, the White House announced Wednesday night.
Gordon is currently the deputy director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, a role she assumed in January 2015. Gordon came to the NGA with over 25 years of experience at the CIA, where she worked her way up from analyst to become director of the Information Operations Center and the CIA director’s senior adviser on cybersecurity. As part of the latter job, she was responsible for integrating cybersecurity capabilities into all of the CIA’s mission areas.
The role of principal deputy in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) has been vacant since Obama-era pick Stephanie O’Sullivan left in January. ODNI reports directly to the president and oversees the entire U.S. intelligence committee.
More recently, at NGA, Gordon has been working to improve the agency’s acquisition process and pushing for a move to the cloud. Her work in these areas earned her a spot on FedScoop’s Top Women in Tech list for 2017.
