Amy Northcutt, CIO of National Science Foundation, passes away at 57
Amy Northcutt, CIO of the National Science Foundation, died May 6 at age 57.
Northcutt, who served as the federal agency’s CIO since 2012 and its deputy general counsel for a decade prior to that, was diagnosed with a brain tumor April 27, according to her obituary.
As CIO, Northcutt was responsible for NSF’s IT investments, policy, planning, governance and operations — particularly in enabling the foundation’s receipt, review and funding of research proposals.
“She enacted a continuous Information Technology modernization approach which has brought innumerable advances to our day-to-day lives,” NSF Director France Córdova said in a statement. “These contributions will impact and improve NSF’s business operations for years to come.”
“We will miss our interactions with Amy, her thought leadership, and kindness,” the director said.
Prior to her service at NSF, Northcutt spent time as vice president for administration of Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., and CEO of the Interstate Commerce Commission.
FedScoop honored Northcutt earlier this year as one of its Top Women in Tech for 2017.
