Commerce Offering $10K in App Contest

The Department of Commerce is offering $10,000 for apps that find innovative ways to utilize Commerce and other publicly available data and information to support American businesses.

Developers must use at least one Department of Commerce data set in creating their application and are welcome to use the platform that best suits them, the agency said.

$5,000 cash award will be given to the winner. Second place will receive $3,000 and third place will receive $2,000. Submissions will be accepted between February 22 and April 30, 2012. Complete contest rules and entry requirements can be found at docbusinessapps.challenge.gov.

Judges include Federal Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel, former Federal CIO Vivek Kundra, Secretary of Commerce John Bryson and Internet pioneer Vint Cerf.
