A House committee chairman plans to hold a hearing as early as April 16 to examine the more than $800,000 the General Services Administration spent on a conference that led to the resignation Monday of Administrator Martha Johnson and the firing of two other top employees.
Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said he is prepared to subpoena any documents he may need to explore wasteful spending at the agency.
“Fortunately what happened in Vegas is not staying in Vegas,” Mica said.
Johnson resigned Monday shortly before an inspector general’s report was released detailing GSA’s spending on the 2010 Western Regions Conference at the M Resort in Henderson, Nev.
Bob Peck, commissioner of the agency’s Public Building Service, and Johnson adviser Stephen Leeds were fired, and four regional commissioners were put on administrative leave.
